about me

Hi!

This is Laura and I learned to knit with my grandma but never thought this would become my job.

I studied communications and worked as fashion PR and showroom manager at a luxury brand, but I always felt my heart belonged to the small village where I was born. So I created 'Mimosa Cafe Lanar' ('lanar' meaning wool in Spanish) as a way to return to my hometown and live a peaceful life away from stress.

I opened a brick and mortar shop in 2017, a colorful place with many workshops, cafeteria service and lots of funny things going on at the same time, but after pandemic I re-arrange my business and now I have been working from home as a designer & online yarn shop for almost 3 years.

I recently became a mum, started selling my very own yarn 'Cottagecore' (a blend of Spanish merino + Asturias endangered sheep) few months ago, and I am happy I can live a beautiful life surrounded by nature. It inspires me to create beautiful patterns. When working on my designs, I always tend to simplify and try to keep in mind life is already way to complicated so knitting should be fun and accessible for the enthusiastic beginner knitters as well.

values

From the very beginning as a brick and mortar shop to present time as an online business, Mimosa Cafe Lanar was intended to be a safe and inclusive home for every kind of knitter, a place where we can share our love for fibers and handmade.

I started selling mainstream brands but bit by bit I woke towards values clores to sustainability, small batches, respect for animals, lower environmental impact, etc. I currently only sell brands & products that I LOVE and that I would buy for myself. I try to offer a wide and well curated selection of the most interesting international yarns.

My business is a reflection of my lifestyle. I try to work in the same way that I live: respecting and honouring nature that surrounds me, without great luxuries, but choosing only what makes me happy. This is a personal choice I made a few years ago that changed me forever.

my designs

I also publish my own designs occasionally. I can't consider myself a designer as I still have a lot to improve in terms of inclusivity, sizing, etc. I feel like I'm improving little by little, always try to learn new stuff and do better.

My patterns are usually inspired by nature: flowers, plants, and animals that surround me. I put great effort in writing them down in such a simple way that knitters of all levels can finish the garment, with clear and concise language. For me it is also an important learning experience.

All designs are protected by Safe Creative license, they are for personal use only, and may not be reproduced, sold, or distributed both in print or digital format.

test knitting

Test knitting is introduce corrections and helping me shape a pattern before it is published. I'm always looking for enthusiastic test knitters to help me out when I'm working on a new pattern.

You don't need to be a super skilled knitter as I always try to include also beginner knitters that bring different perspectives which is always trully enriching for me (and the pattern!).

The only thing I ask of you is knowledge on how to use Google docs and a strong commitment to the deadline (usually 1 month for accs or 2-3 months for bigger patterns with many sizes).

If you are willing to help me out, please write to info@mimosacafelanar.es and specify: info@mimosacafelanar.es con:

  • bust size in cm
  • Ravelry & Instagram user
